Strovolos Urban Garden: Growing Learning, Community, and Inclusion

The FEED4FOOD consortium congratulates our Cyprus partner for the excellent work carried out in Strovolos, where the old municipal nursery is being transformed into an educational vegetable garden. This initiative, implemented with the support of the Strovolos Municipality and co-funded by the Research and Innovation Foundation (ΙΔΕΚ), is becoming a model of community-based urban agriculture.

The goal is to create a green and accessible space where residents can learn, create, and reconnect with nature — one plant at a time.

Recently, the garden hosted a visit from the Adults’ Center of the Strovolos Multifunctional Municipal Center. Participants were introduced to the project’s objectives and practices, and took part in planting new vegetables and aromatic plants. Their engagement highlights the core mission of the garden:

  • Environmental education across generations
  • Inclusion and engagement of vulnerable groups
  • Awareness on climate change and sustainable everyday choices
  • Hands-on learning for food self-sufficiency

The garden is becoming a vibrant meeting point — a space that fosters participation, knowledge sharing, and meaningful contact with the land.

We warmly thank the Strovolos Municipality for its continuous support, and Alpha TV Cyprus for featuring the visit. A special acknowledgment goes to Dr. Vassilis Litskas for his dedication and outstanding coordination of the Strovolos’ activities throughout the project.
