The transformation of the Living Lab has officially begun with the installation of the first planter box. The compacted soil has been replaced with fertile garden soil, which will be further enriched with organic material to support plant growth. This initiative is being coordinated by the municipality, which is providing all necessary resources, while the KES Research Centre is contributing expertise in vegetable production.
In preparation for planting, the designated 27 m² area will be cultivated next Thursday (10 April). The first group to engage in the planting process will be the municipality’s environment committee, as part of an effort to communicate and demonstrate the objectives of the project.
To ensure sustainable water management, work is also underway to establish a drip irrigation network. Additionally, two tanks are being installed to harvest rainwater from the greenhouse roof, which is already collecting moisture from the morning mist.
The initial crop selection will focus on green vegetables and aromatic plants, including spinach, rocket, oregano, and lettuce. The approach will be experimental, allowing for observations and adjustments as the project progresses.
Stay tuned for further updates as the Living Lab takes shape!
